On his recent European trip, Tourism Media photographer Matt Bridges traveled into Andorra, one of Europe’s 10 smallest countries.
After having his papers cleared through border patrol, Matt set off on a trek through a country full of life and spectacular landscapes.
Traditionally a winter destination, Andorra is known for its skiing and snowboarding, so when Matt arrived in sunny July, everywhere but the capital Andorra la Vella was almost deserted. As a result, our photographer had the only open hotel in Arinsal to himself.
Over the next 4 days Matt trekked the Arcalis trail up Mount Vallnord. Along the way he faced some pretty hairy lightning storms and at one time was stalked by wild dogs. He met travellers with many tales of adventure along the way and many a friendly face among the fellow adventurers in the hiking hostels. Our photographer ascended mountains and up dry ski runs, totalling over 2km in elevation to snap us some amazing photographs.
Towards the end of his journey, Matt hiked to Estany Primer de Juclar to witness some picturesque valleys and a beautiful lake. Andorra may be a little country but it has a big heart and our photographer was met with nothing but smiling faces and kind favours by the locals.
Matt pushed on and reluctantly left the little country behind him but he will forever carry the fond memories with him.
